Week-one McKinney sales-tax permits: a storefront window cleaner's route

Published

Luis runs a one-van storefront window-cleaning route out of McKinney, doing strip-center glass every two or four weeks for salons, restaurants and small shops. His best new accounts are businesses in the weeks right before and after they open, when the owner is still picking vendors and wants the front windows to look perfect.

Driving the shopping centers looking for "coming soon" banners was slow and he usually showed up after a competitor had already left a card. A brand-new Texas sales-tax permit at a McKinney suite address is the earlier signal he wanted, because nearly every storefront that sells anything has to get one before it rings up its first sale.

What changed

He bought MckLead for $19. After Stripe checkout, the CSVs were emailed directly from Armorlight: 7-day and 30-day files from the Texas Comptroller's list of permitted sales-tax locations, filtered to McKinney, with the business and location name, NAICS industry code, street address, ZIP, inside-city-limits flag, permit date and first-sale date. The state file has no phone or owner-contact column, so the CSVs have neither.

That week

  • Mon: opened the 30-day file: 111 new McKinney sales-tax permits dated Sep 5 to Sep 26. The 7-day window from that same pull happened to be empty, which is normal for the state file, so the 30-day sheet was his list.
  • Tue: filtered to addresses with a suite number, which is how strip-center storefronts show up. That left 26, all inside city limits, and 17 of them were in ZIP 75070, with 11 on Eldorado Pkwy or Collin McKinney Pkwy alone. He crossed off two that were clearly mailbox-store suites.
  • Wed: sorted by industry code. Of those 26 suites, 7 were personal-care businesses like salons, brow studios and aesthetics, and 5 were restaurants or food counters. He also skipped the 15 permits coded as online-only retailers, since they have no front glass.
  • Thu: checked the first-sale date column. Across the full file, 33 businesses listed a first sale on or after Oct 1, meaning they had not opened yet when the permit landed, and 8 of those were at suite addresses. He walked those first with a pre-opening glass and door quote, then did the rest of the Eldorado and Collin McKinney loop.

The file became his monthly prospecting list: every new suite permit along his existing route is a stop he can add without adding drive time.

Illustrative scenario: Luis is a composite operator, not a named customer. The permit counts, ZIPs, streets, industry codes and first-sale dates come from a real MckLead 7-day and 30-day file generated Oct 5, 2026.
